Mask Making workshop
Aro Valley Community Centre
Friday 21 June, 6.30 - 8.30pm
Entry by donation.
Proudly supported by Resene and Mitre 10 Crofton Downs.
During this workshop, Brazilian designer Luca Ribeiro will mentor you in making a tiara/mask that you can wear during the Lōemis Solstice Procession on June 22nd. With an established framework of materials and tools, you will have the freedom to create your own unique piece. The solstice procession revolves around Staccus, a giant effigy, which this year is linked to ideas of ocean pollution and sustainability. The framework of the tiara/mask will be linked to this by having a deep sea creature theme.
Luca specialises in digital fabrication and has a passion for costume design. In 2019 he received his MFA from Victoria University by developing a fully 3D printed suit. In 2015 one of his garments was part of World of Wearable Arts. Since then he has been working with production design.
